9 shocking stats that sum up Man Utd’s sad decline since Sir Alex Ferguson retired
Manchester United have struggled to maintain their status as a Premier League powerhouse since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club and these stats sum up their shocking decline.
Ferguson bowed out on a high at the end of the 2012–13 season as he guided United to Premier League glory. Little did the United fans know at the time, that would be their last league title for quite some time.
Several managers have sat in the hot seat in the post-Ferguson era and despite some highs along the way, they have each struggled to live up to the standards that were set by Ferguson.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag have all been given the top job and they have each had varying degrees of success during their time in charge.
“Alex Ferguson knew where the club was going and he got out of there as quick as he could, and they’re still picking up the pieces now,” Wayne Rooney said in his documentary from 2022.
Sustaining the success of Ferguson was always going to be tough, but few people predicted United’s drop-off to be just as dramatic as it has turned out.
Ten Hag seemingly had United back on an upward trajectory last season, but he has run into some troubles in his second season. United currently sit sixth in the table and seem likely to miss out on Champions League football for next season.
