Harry Kane looks set to go trophyless

Harry Kane & 5 other world-class players who look set to go trophyless in 2023-24

As things stand, some big names look set to go trophyless in 2023-24 including stars from Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Even the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have endured trophyless seasons throughout their illustrious careers, proving it can happen to anyone.

We’ve taken a closer look at six world-class players from around the globe who look set to go trophyless in 2023-24.

Harry Kane

This was supposed to be his year. At the very least he was expected to win a Bundesliga title, but even that looks like a stretch for Bayern Munich right now, given the tremendous form of Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane has already seen his side lose the DFL-Supercup final and be knocked out of the DFB-Pokal. After losing the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Lazio, a trophyless season is starting to look increasingly likely.

That’s despite Kane himself scoring an obscene amount of goals. Poor guy can’t catch a break.

Robert Lewandowski

The last time Lewandowski endured a trophyless season was over a decade ago in 2012–13 while he was still playing for Borussia Dortmund.

Fast forward to this season and a trophyless campaign looks more than likely. Barcelona have already been dumped out of the Copa del Rey and they were unsuccessful in the Supercopa de Espana too.

With Xavi’s side sitting third in La Liga, their best chance of winning a trophy this season is by having a run in the Champions League.

Although given their stuttering form of late, a Champions League triumph doesn’t look very likely.

Antoine Griezmann

The Frenchman is playing some of the best football of his career right now, but it could all be for nothing. Despite chipping in with 25 goal contributions across all competitions, a trophyless season is a real possibility for Griezmann.

Atletico Madrid have been way behind the pace in La Liga as they currently trail leaders Real Madrid by 13 points. They are still in the Copa del Rey, although they lost the first leg against Athletic Club and currently trail 1-0 on aggregate.

If they aren’t able to turn that result around, their only chance of winning a trophy this season will be the Champions League. A competition which the club has never won.

Karim Benzema

Most of us assumed that Benzema would make light work of the Suadi Pro League, but that’s not proven to be the case.

Following a league and cup double for Al-Ittihad last season, the club has massively regressed this time around. They currently sit fifth in the league and have also underwhelmed in the FIFA Club World Cup and Arab Club Champions Cup.

There are still a couple of trophies on offer for Benzema this season, but Al-Ittihad look unlikely to win them unless they get their act together soon.

Son Heung-min

His best chance of winning some silverware was probably with South Korea, but they were unsuccessful in the Asia Cup, losing to Jordan in the semi-finals.

While Ange Postecoglou has breathed a new lease of life into this Spurs squad this season, another season without silverware is on the horizon.

Currently sat seven points behind Liverpool in the league and no longer in any of the cup competitions, it doesn’t look like being Son’s year.

Victor Osimhen

Napoli have badly missed Osimhen at points of this season. The club have been well off the pace in Serie A as they currently sit ninth in the table and trail Inter Milan by a whopping 25 points.

Walter Mazzarri’s side have already been dumped out of the Coppa Italia and they lost the Supercoppa Italiana final. That only leaves the Champions League as a viable trophy to win this season and that looks increasingly unlikely.

Of course, Osimhen also had the chance to win some silverware with his nation, but Nigeria came up short in the AFCON final and lost out to Ivory Coast.
