11 truly bananas stats from Arsenal’s history-making 6-0 mauling of West Ham

Arsenal made it four wins on the bounce with an emphatic 6-0 triumph over West Ham to keep their Premier League title hopes well and truly alive.

During a weekend where Liverpool and Manchester City had already won, Mikel Arteta knew the importance of this game and boy did his side deliver the goods.

While the Hammers have proven to be a tricky customer at times, the Gunners made light work of them this time around. Arteta’s men set the tempo with a dominant first-half performance and they didn’t take their foot off the pedal after half time either.

In a game littered with man-of-the-match-worthy performances, it’s tough to single out Arsenal’s best player. Gabriel and William Saliba both got themselves on the scoresheet and were as sturdy as ever at the back.

Martin Odegaard was bossing things in midfield alongside Declan Rice. The midfield duo managed five goal contributions between them with a goal and four assists.

Of course, Bukayo Saka’s input has to be recognised too. During a season where the Arsenal winger has received some flack, he’s been in tremendous form of late with six goal contributions in his last six matches.

“We were 4-0 up in the first half and we could have scored more. We smelled blood today and went for the kill,” Saka told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.

Results like this can spur a side onto Premier League glory and on this weekend’s evidence, we certainly wouldn’t put it past Arsenal from going all the way.

Here are 11 bonkers statistics from Arsenal’s hugely impressive victory away to West Ham:

– At 22 years & 159 days, Saka became the youngest player to reach 50 goals for the Gunners since Frank Stapleton in 1978.

– This was the first time that Arsenal led by four goals at half-time of a Premier League away match since the infamous 4-4 against Newcastle over 13 years ago – January 2011.

– Arsenal have scored the most goals from corners (11) and set-pieces (14) [not including penalties] in the Premier League this season.

– Prior to this afternoon, Arsenal had only won four Premier League games by a 6+ goal margin in their history.

– This was Arsenal’s biggest triumph against West Ham since 1960. In the 1960-61 campaign, the Gunners also recorded a 6-0 triumph over the Hammers.

– Rice scored from an xG of just 0.03. He also created an expected assists (xA) of 0.8, which was more than anyone else on the pitch.

– This was the first time that Arsenal scored six goals away from home in the Premier League since they beat David Moyes’ Everton side 6-1 in August 2009.

– Odegaard only misplaced six of the 113 passes that he attempted. The Arsenal skipper also created seven chances for his teammates and produced two assists.

– This was Arsenal’s biggest-ever Premier League away victory. Prior to this afternoon, their record away triumph was 6-1 against Everton in 2009 and Middlesbrough in 1999.

– Arteta’s side created an xG of 4.36 against West Ham. In their last two Premier League matches they have now accumulated an xG of 8.12, which is hugely impressive.

– The Gunners took a total of 25 shots with 12 of those efforts being on target. This is significantly more than their seasonal average of 16.5 shots per game.
